Prithvi Shaw will lead Maharashtra in their opening match of the 2026-27 Ranji Trophy season against Services in New Delhi from October 11, with regular captain Ruturaj Gaikwad unavailable due to his India A commitments.

Shaw will take charge of a 16-member Maharashtra squad for the Group C contest as the state side begins its campaign in the premier domestic first-class tournament. Gaikwad, meanwhile, is set to captain India A in their three-match unofficial ODI series against Australia A in Puducherry.

The India A matches are scheduled for October 6, 9 and 11, creating a direct clash with the opening round of the Ranji Trophy. Gaikwad's absence has paved the way for Shaw to take over the Maharashtra captaincy for the season opener.

Maharashtra and Services are part of a competitive Elite Group C, which also includes Bengal, Delhi, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Kerala and Odisha. The group promises a demanding campaign, with Maharashtra beginning their title push on the road against Services.

The squad features a mix of experienced domestic campaigners and promising young players. Alongside Shaw, Maharashtra have Sachin Dhas, Digvijay Patil, Ankeet Bawane, Harshal Kate and Siddhesh Veer in their batting group.

Saurabh Navale is the designated wicketkeeper, while the bowling department includes Vicky Ostwal, Rajvardhan Hangargekar, Mukesh Choudhary, Pradeep Dadhe, Tanay Sanghvi, Vaibhav Darkunde, Hitesh Walunj, Rishikesh Sonawane and Atharva Dharmadhikari.

The 2026-27 Ranji Trophy season begins on October 11, with Maharashtra hoping to make an early statement despite beginning their campaign without their regular skipper.
