Protesters Demand Release of Sikh Youths Detained Over Attack on Gursimran Mand

Members of the Sikh community staged a dharna outside the Panjokhra police station on Sunday, protesting the detention of two Sikh youths in connection with the assault on International Anti-Khalistani Terrorist Front (IAKTF) chief Gursimran Singh Mand.

Mand was attacked by a mob outside Gurudwara Shri Panjokhra Sahib on Friday evening. During the incident, the mob allegedly smashed the windshield and windows of his car. Mand sustained minor injuries and was subsequently rescued by his security guards and police personnel.

Following the incident, police detained two Sikh youths for questioning in connection with the assault. Their detention prompted a large gathering outside the Panjokhra police station on Sunday, with protesters demanding their immediate release.

Farmer leader Gurnam Singh Chaduni and office-bearers of the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Kisan Union were among those present at the protest. Chaduni demanded that the two youths be released immediately and warned of a major agitation if the demand was not met.

Police officials and representatives of the Sikh community were engaged in discussions over the issue, as efforts continued to defuse the situation.

Meanwhile, members of the Sikh community also demanded that a case be registered against Mand, alleging that he had attempted to run over certain individuals with his car during Friday's incident. The allegation has added another dimension to the dispute, with protesters seeking action against Mand as well.

The situation remained tense but under discussion as police and community representatives sought to resolve the matter.
