
PV Sindhu Seeded Ninth, Satwik-Chirag Fifth for BWF World Championships
Two-time Olympic medallist P. V. Sindhu has been seeded ninth in the women's singles category for the BWF World Championships, while India's star men's doubles duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty have been handed the fifth seed for the prestigious tournament, scheduled to be held at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in New Delhi from August 17 to 23.
Fresh off her Japan Open title, Sindhu will lead India's women's singles challenge, while the 2022 Asian Games gold medallists Satwik and Chirag are among the leading contenders in men's doubles.
India has secured two entries in each of the five events, with at least one seeded player or pair in four categories. Former world championships bronze medallist Lakshya Sen has been seeded 14th in men's singles, while the mixed doubles pair of Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto have received the 15th seed.
Qualification for the championships was based on the BWF world rankings as of April 28, 2026, while the tournament seedings were determined using the July 28, 2026 rankings.
Reigning men's singles world champion Shi Yuqi of China and An Se-young of South Korea have been named the top seeds in their respective singles events.
In women's singles, defending world champion Akane Yamaguchi is seeded second, followed by Wang Zhiyi and Chen Yufei.
The draw ceremony will be held on Wednesday, with the final seedings subject to change if any seeded players withdraw before the draw. In doubles, South Korea's Kim Won-ho and Seo Seung-jae are the top seeds in men's doubles, China's Liu Shengshu and Tan Ning lead the women's doubles field, while compatriots Feng Yanzhe and Huang Dongping top the mixed doubles seedings.
