Raghava Lawrence’s Warrior Avatar Takes Centre Stage In “Mahaveer Karna” First Look

Actor Raghava Lawrence is stepping into unfamiliar territory with his first mythological role, unveiling an intense warrior look for the upcoming epic Mahaveer Karna.

The actor shared multilingual posters from the film, offering audiences an early glimpse of his portrayal of Karna, one of the most complex and celebrated figures in the Mahabharata. The posters present Lawrence in a fierce warrior avatar, marking a significant departure from the roles that have largely defined his career.

Directed by Ramesh Varma, Mahaveer Karna is being mounted as a large-scale pan-Indian production. The film is backed by Pen Movies and other producers and reportedly carries a budget of around ₹150 crore, underlining the scale of the project.

The epic is planned for a 2027 release and is expected to reach audiences in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada. The makers are positioning the film as a visually ambitious retelling centred on Karna, whose loyalty, generosity, warrior skills and tragic fate have made him a lasting figure in Indian mythology.

Lawrence's first look has already generated interest online, particularly because of the actor's physical transformation and the intense presentation of the character. At the same time, discussions around the film have also focused on how Karna will be represented on screen.

Some online reactions have questioned the use of the term “Mahaveer” for Karna, arguing that his legacy is better understood through his qualities as a generous warrior and loyal ally, rather than through a straightforward glorification of the character. Such debates highlight the expectations surrounding any contemporary cinematic interpretation of a well-known mythological figure.

With its substantial production scale, multilingual release plans and Lawrence taking on a challenging new genre, Mahaveer Karna will be closely watched as the project moves towards its 2027 release.
