Rahul Gandhi Says He Loves Swimming in Rough Seas in Cryptic Social Media Post

Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Sunday shared a cryptic social media post saying he enjoys swimming in the sea when it is rough, without offering any context for the remark.

“I love swimming in the sea when it's rough. It teaches you that rough is just another kind of calm,” Gandhi said in a post on microblogging platform X.

The Congress leader did not elaborate on the message or indicate what it referred to.

The post came amid a political controversy over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, which has triggered a wider debate over the functioning of the Election Commission and the revision of voter lists.

The controversy intensified following a report published by The Indian Express on September 23, which said Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi had repeatedly raised questions over decisions related to the SIR exercise.

According to the report, the two Election Commissioners had formally objected on record at least 14 times over the past 10 months to decisions and orders concerning the exercise, saying these were taken without their knowledge or recommendations.

The national rollout of the SIR is being supervised by the three-member Election Commission.

Gandhi had last year raised allegations of “vote chori” and claimed that there were irregularities in the electoral process. He has subsequently cited the reported objections by the Election Commissioners as supporting his allegations.

The Election Commission has been facing political scrutiny over the electoral-roll revision exercise, with opposition parties raising concerns over the process and its potential implications for voters.

Gandhi’s latest post, however, did not directly mention the Election Commission, SIR or his earlier allegations, leaving its immediate political context unspecified.
