Rahul Gandhi’s Remarks Against India, Says Telangana BJP Chief N. Ramchander Rao
Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao has criticised Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of supporting foreign figures whose comments allegedly go against India’s interests.
Rao alleged that Gandhi frequently responds when prominent American figures make critical remarks about India but failed to speak out when US President Donald Trump threatened to impose 100% tariffs on Indian goods. He also questioned Gandhi’s response to comments by Elon Musk, the head of SpaceX, regarding regulatory hurdles faced by Starlink in India.
According to Rao, Gandhi’s responses appeared to favour individuals criticising India rather than defending the country’s interests. He further alleged that the Congress leader seemed to be yielding to Trump and selectively raising issues that, in his view, were contrary to India’s interests.
The political exchange centres on the approval process for Starlink, SpaceX’s satellite-based internet service, which is seeking to enter the Indian market. Musk had expressed concerns about the regulatory process, claiming that the company had been waiting for clearance for five years despite complying with Indian laws and regulations.
Responding to Musk’s post on X, Gandhi wrote, “Elon, welcome to India. Wait till you meet another person here.” His remark appeared to suggest that Musk could face further challenges while navigating India’s regulatory system.
Musk subsequently thanked Gandhi and described the situation as a matter of concern.
The exchange has drawn attention to the regulatory challenges surrounding Starlink’s proposed entry into India and the broader debate over approvals for satellite internet services.
Rao used Gandhi’s response to Musk to question the Congress leader’s position on matters involving foreign business interests and India’s national priorities. His remarks have intensified the political disagreement between the BJP and the Congress over the issue.
The controversy highlights how regulatory decisions, international business interests and political rivalries have become intertwined in the debate surrounding Starlink’s proposed operations in India.
