Rain Clouds Over Mumbai: IMD Forecasts More Showers During Monsoon Withdrawal
Mumbai is likely to see rain and thundershowers as unsettled weather continues over parts of Maharashtra, with the India Meteorological Department forecasting isolated spells across the region as the southwest monsoon enters its withdrawal phase.
The weather in Mumbai remained partly cloudy on Wednesday, with the IMD forecasting one or two spells of rain or thundershowers. The weather department has indicated that rainfall activity could continue over parts of the Konkan region and Maharashtra in the coming days.
The latest forecast comes as the southwest monsoon begins its seasonal retreat from the country. The IMD has forecast isolated to scattered rainfall over Gujarat, Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada through October 2, with some areas also likely to experience thunderstorms and strong winds.
For Mumbai, the forecast points to intermittent rather than widespread heavy rainfall. Weather conditions can change quickly during the transition from the southwest monsoon, with localised thunderstorms capable of producing brief but intense spells.
Neighbouring districts are expected to see more active weather. The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Thane and Raigad for thunderstorms and rain, while several districts in Madhya Maharashtra have also been warned of thunderstorms and rainfall.
The changing weather comes toward the end of the southwest monsoon season. The IMD's broader forecast indicates that rain activity will gradually reduce as the monsoon withdraws, although isolated showers and thunderstorms can continue during the transition.
Mumbai residents are therefore likely to experience partly cloudy conditions with occasional rain or thundershowers, particularly during localised weather developments. Commuters have been advised to keep track of fresh IMD updates, especially when travelling during periods of thunderstorm activity.
