Rajasthan: FIR Against 16 Over Alleged Religious Conversion Through Inducements

Sixteen people have been named in an FIR in Rajasthan’s Banswara district following a complaint alleging that people were being pressured and offered monetary and other inducements to convert their religion, police said on Wednesday.

The complaint was filed at Sallopat police station by Aditya Dindor, a resident of Makdichor village. According to the complaint, people were allegedly offered Rs 1 lakh and Rs 25,000 every month for converting their religion. The complainant also alleged that promises of selection in the civil services, a vehicle and other facilities were made to those willing to convert.

Dindor further alleged that attempts were made to conduct baptism ceremonies and that he was assaulted with kicks and punches after refusing to convert.

Sallopat SHO Jayesh Patidar said an FIR had been registered on the basis of the complaint and that 16 people had been named.

“An FIR has been registered based on the complaint. We are recording statements and questioning the accused. Further action is underway,” Patidar said.

The complainant also alleged that the accused used casteist slurs and made insulting remarks about Hindu deities.

According to the FIR, a programme was organised in Shivpura on September 22 and was attended by around 100 to 150 people. It also alleges that a church was being operated from a residential premises.

Police said their investigation indicated that a larger group was allegedly involved in the activities. Statements of those concerned are being recorded and the accused are being questioned as part of the investigation.

The case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Rajasthan Prohibition of Unlawful Religious Conversion Act, 2025.

The allegations in the complaint are subject to investigation, and no conclusion has been reached regarding the culpability of those named in the FIR.
