Rajya Sabha Welcomes 10 New Members as Chairman C P Radhakrishnan Administers Oath

The Rajya Sabha witnessed the induction of ten newly elected members on Thursday as Chairman C P Radhakrishnan administered the oath of office in a formal ceremony held in the Upper House chamber.

The swearing in marked the beginning of a new parliamentary chapter for lawmakers representing diverse regions of the country, reflecting the federal character of India's legislative framework. The newly inducted members hailed from Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Tamil Nadu , bringing fresh representation to the Council of States.

Among those who took the oath were four members from Andhra Pradesh: Sana Sathish Babu , Vijay Chintakayala , Bhashyam Rama Krishna of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), and Lingamaneni Ramesh of the Jana Sena Party (JSP) . From Arunachal Pradesh, Tai Tagak of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) joined the Upper House, while Rajesh Parmanad Shukla represented Gujarat.

Jharkhand sent two members to the Rajya Sabha, including independent candidate Parimal Nathwani and Baidyanath Ram of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) . Debashish Samantaray from Odisha and Praveen Chakravarty of the Indian National Congress (INC) from Tamil Nadu also took the oath.

The ceremony also showcased India's linguistic diversity. Five members chose to take the oath in Hindi , while one each took the oath in English and Tamil . Three members opted for Telugu , reflecting the strong representation from Andhra Pradesh.

The swearing in ceremony was attended by Minister of State for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal , Rajya Sabha Secretary General P C Mody , and other senior parliamentary officials.

The induction of the new members comes at a significant time as Parliament prepares to deliberate on key legislative and policy issues in the coming months. Their entry into the Rajya Sabha is expected to add new perspectives to debates and discussions in the Upper House, which plays a crucial role in scrutinising legislation and representing the interests of states and Union Territories.

With representatives from multiple political parties and regions taking their seats, the latest round of inductions underscores the Rajya Sabha's role as a platform where India's diverse political and regional voices converge in the national legislature.
