The wait is finally over. Ram Charan’s most anticipated film in years, Peddi , directed by Buchi Babu Sana of Uppena fame, arrives on screens worldwide today, June 4, and if premiere night is any indication, it is poised to be one of the biggest Telugu blockbusters in recent memory.

Set in 1980s rural Andhra Pradesh , Peddi follows a spirited villager who unites his community through sports to defend their pride against a powerful rival. The film combines wrestling and cricket into a rustic, emotionally charged backdrop, with Ram Charan in the title role, Janhvi Kapoor as the female lead, Kannada superstar Shiva Rajkumar and Jagapathi Babu in pivotal roles, and Divyenndu rounding out the ensemble. The music is composed by Academy Award-winning A. R. Rahman , with cinematography by R. Rathnavelu and editing by Naveen Nooli .

The premiere shows on June 3 set the tone for what could be a record-breaking run. In North America alone, the film clocked impressive advance booking numbers, comfortably crossing the coveted 1 million dollar mark in premiere pre sales, with standard screens contributing over 505,000 dollars and premium formats including XD, RPX, and D Box adding nearly 280,000 dollars to the tally. In the first 24 hours of advance bookings opening in North America, Peddi grossed 100,000 dollars , surpassing the record previously held by Pawan Kalyan’s OG , which had earned 82,000 dollars in its opening 24 hour window. Worldwide pre sales crossed ₹22 crore ahead of the release, with India contributing over ₹13 crore .

Peddi was made on a budget of ₹350 crore , making it the third most expensive film in Ram Charan’s career after RRR and Game Changer . The film is widely projected to collect ₹85 crore or more in worldwide gross on its opening day, with the buzz for Peddi running higher than Game Changer , which had opened to ₹86 crore globally in January 2025. To enter the safe zone, the film needs to earn ₹350 crore net at the Indian box office alone, a benchmark only RRR has crossed in Ram Charan’s career so far.

The road to release was not without turbulence. An ongoing conflict between exhibitors and producers threatened to disrupt the film’s theatrical rollout, but Megastar Chiranjeevi personally stepped in to broker peace, and exhibitors agreed to screen Peddi on the existing rental basis. Debut producer Satish Kilaru has earned widespread appreciation for his meticulous planning and execution throughout the film’s journey, with Ram Charan himself acknowledging Kilaru’s involvement and confidence.

Coming off the disappointment of Game Changer , Ram Charan and his fans have enormous emotional investment in Peddi . Directed by Buchi Babu Sana , who won the National Film Award for best Telugu film for his debut Uppena and previously worked with Sukumar on Rangasthalam , the project promises a rural, emotional, and rustic journey. With theaters packed to capacity and celebratory fan gatherings unfolding across the country, Peddi steps into the spotlight today carrying the hopes of an entire industry.
