Ramayana Music Rights Sold to T-Series for Rs 75 Crore Ahead of Trailer Launch
The countdown to Ramayana has officially begun. With the film's much awaited trailer finally set to release worldwide on July 30 during the auspicious Brahma Muhurat, excitement has reached fever pitch. As fans eagerly await their first full look at Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram and Yash as Ravana, the epic has already scripted history with a blockbuster business deal even before hitting the big screen.
According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, T-Series has secured the audio rights for Ramayana for a whopping Rs. 75 crore. The deal reportedly covers the music of both Ramayana Part 1 and Part 2, making it one of the biggest music rights acquisitions in Hindi cinema.
The report quoted sources as saying, "T-Series has acquired the music rights of Ramayana. Bhushan Kumar and the senior leadership at T-Series are supremely confident about the potential of the film's soundtrack. As part of the arrangement, T-Series has paid an advance of Rs. 75 crores for the music rights. The amount covers the music of both parts of Ramayana."
Interestingly, industry reports had earlier revealed that producer Namit Malhotra was initially targeting a landmark Rs. 100 crore music rights deal, with several leading labels competing for the album. Even though the reported agreement stands at Rs. 75 crore, it comfortably surpasses previous Bollywood benchmarks and highlights the immense confidence surrounding the film's soundtrack.
The excitement isn't just about the numbers. Ramayana boasts a dream collaboration between Oscar winners A.R. Rahman and Hans Zimmer, marking the duo's first ever partnership on an Indian film. Their music is expected to be one of the film's biggest highlights.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the mythological spectacle stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Hanuman, Ravi Dubey as Lakshman, Arun Govil as Dasharatha, Kajal Aggarwal as Mandodari, Lara Dutta as Kaikeyi and Rakul Preet Singh as Surpanakha. The film is being mounted on a massive scale with Sony Pictures Entertainment handling its global distribution, while reports also suggest an ambitious USD 40 million worldwide marketing campaign to position it as a global cinematic event.
Adding to the anticipation, the trailer has already received a U certificate from the CBFC, with two versions approved, including one running just over four minutes, hinting at a grand first look. After an earlier postponement for a worldwide rollout, the makers are now ready to unveil the trailer on July 30.
