'Ramayana' Vs 'Godzilla Minus Zero' Set Up Epic November 6 Global Box Office Clash

Two of the most ambitious spectacles of 2026 are heading for a rare global box-office face-off. Nitesh Tiwari’s 'Ramayana: Part 1' and Takashi Yamazaki’s 'Godzilla Minus Zero' are both scheduled to arrive in international theatres on November 6, 2026, bringing an Indian mythological epic and a Japanese kaiju blockbuster into direct competition for global audiences.

The clash becomes even more interesting because both films carry the distinction of being the first productions from India and Japan respectively to be filmed for IMAX. While 'Ramayana' is being mounted as a massive Indian cinematic event, 'Godzilla Minus Zero' is expanding the world created by Yamazaki in his Oscar-winning 'Godzilla Minus One'.

'Ramayana' has already generated considerable buzz following the release of its trailer in July. Ranbir Kapoor plays Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi portrays Sita and Yash plays Ravana, with the film backed by producer Namit Malhotra and directed by Tiwari. The release date also has a personal significance for Ranbir, as November 6 coincides with his daughter Raha’s birthday.

The scale of the production has been another talking point. Cinematographer Pankaj Kumar recently revealed that the team extensively pre-visualised the film, with scenes virtually planned before shooting. The process was aimed at building the film’s visual language and managing its enormous VFX-driven world.

Meanwhile, 'Godzilla Minus Zero' is a direct sequel to 'Godzilla Minus One' and brings back Ryunosuke Kamiki and Minami Hamabe as Koichi Shikishima and Noriko. Early footage has teased an expanded story, including Godzilla approaching the Statue of Liberty, suggesting that the sequel will take the franchise beyond Japan.

The film will be released in Japan on November 3, before its November 6 North American opening. Recent trailer footage has also fuelled fan speculation about King Ghidorah, although the character’s complete role has not been officially detailed.

With Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash representing India's biggest mythological spectacle and Yamazaki bringing back one of modern cinema’s most acclaimed Godzilla interpretations, November 6 is shaping up as an unusual international movie weekend.
