Ranabaali Makers Launch ‘Never Forget’ Docu-Series Ahead of October Release

Ranabaali makers have launched a four-part YouTube documentary series, “Ranabaali: Never Forget – The Truth Series,” ahead of the period action drama’s worldwide theatrical release on October 16, 2026.

The first episode, titled “The Famine We Forgot,” premiered on September 28 and focuses on the Great Madras Famine of 1876–1878, the historical backdrop of the film. The episode explores the devastating famine and the colonial-era circumstances surrounding it. The makers have presented the series as an effort to revisit historical episodes that they believe have received limited attention.

The documentary is not limited to the famine. It also offers a behind-the-scenes look at the making of Ranabaali, including the research, production challenges and creative decisions involved in recreating the 19th-century setting. According to reports, the project draws on extensive historical research and attempts to connect the film's fictional narrative with the social and political realities of the period.

The remaining episodes will explore different aspects of the historical world behind the film. “The History We Forgot” is scheduled for September 30 and examines questions surrounding the construction of railways and how colonial history was recorded and remembered. “The Men We Forgot,” arriving on October 2, focuses on individuals who resisted British rule but received limited attention in mainstream historical narratives. The fourth episode, “The Last Load,” is yet to receive a release date.

Directed by Rahul Sankrityan, Ranabaali stars Vijay Deverakonda as Ranabaali, a 19th-century warrior from Rayalaseema, and Rashmika Mandanna as Jayamma, his wife and partner in his struggle. Hollywood actor Arnold Vosloo also features as Sir Theodore Hector, a British officer.

Produced by Naveen Yerneni and Y. Ravi Shankar under Mythri Movie Makers, with T-Series presenting the film, Ranabaali is scheduled for release in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam on October 16, coinciding with the Vijayadashami festive period.
