Rashmika’s M.S. Subbulakshmi Biopic Set for Grand Launch Today
Rashmika Mandanna is set to take on one of the most prestigious roles of her career as she portrays legendary Carnatic vocalist M.S. Subbulakshmi in the upcoming biopic “M.S. – A Legacy on Screen.” The highly anticipated project is gearing up for its grand launch in Chennai today.
The film is being directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri, best known for Jersey, with Anirudh Ravichander composing the music. The project is jointly produced by Allu Aravind, Bunny Vasu and Rockline Venkatesh.
The launch event is planned at a music academy in Chennai, with legendary actor Kamal Haasan attending as the chief guest. The makers are also expected to pay tribute to Subbulakshmi through a special musical performance by the Indian Choral Ensemble, featuring some of her iconic compositions.
Rashmika’s casting has generated considerable curiosity, given the stature of the character she will portray. The actress has reportedly already begun preparing for the role, which is expected to require a significant transformation and an understanding of Subbulakshmi’s musical legacy.
Anirudh’s involvement is another major talking point. Although he is known largely for contemporary and high-energy film music, the composer now faces the challenge of creating music for a story centred on one of India’s greatest Carnatic musicians. He and Tinnanuri have previously collaborated on projects including Jersey and Kingdom, with the biopic marking another major association between the two.
Subbulakshmi, who lived from 1916 to 2004, remains one of India's most influential classical vocalists. A Bharat Ratna recipient, she helped take Carnatic and devotional music to audiences across India and internationally.
The biopic is expected to explore her extraordinary musical journey as well as lesser-known chapters of her life. With Rashmika stepping into the iconic role and Tinnanuri and Anirudh bringing their creative strengths to the project, “M.S. – A Legacy on Screen” has already become one of the most closely watched upcoming biopics in Indian cinema.
