The coalition government led by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is intensifying efforts to strengthen the power sector while prioritizing employee welfare, according to Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar . Speaking at the Secretariat during the unveiling of the diary and calendar of the AP Electricity BC Employees Welfare Association , the minister announced that new recruitments would soon be initiated in the electricity department to ease rising workload pressures. He stated that nearly 90 percent of employee demands raised by unions have already been addressed and assured that pending issues, including medical insurance coverage limits , would be resolved shortly.

Highlighting structural reforms, the minister said the government is stabilizing the power system and improving financial discipline within DISCOMs . He pointed out that Andhra Pradesh has implemented a rare ‘True-Down’ mechanism , reducing the burden of True-Up charges on consumers and offering tangible tariff relief. The government has also reduced dependence on expensive private power purchases while increasing generation from state-owned power plants and expanding renewable energy capacity , particularly in solar power. Strengthening of grid infrastructure, modernization of substations, and improved load management are part of a broader strategy to meet the state’s growing electricity demand.

PAC Chairman Kuna Ravi Kumar described Andhra Pradesh’s electricity reforms as a progressive model and reiterated the government’s commitment to employee welfare and inclusive development. Representatives of the employees’ association welcomed the government’s decisions on PRC, DA, increments, and compassionate appointments , expressing appreciation for the administration’s proactive approach.

Meanwhile, in preparation for Maha Shivaratri , the Energy Minister directed officials to ensure uninterrupted power supply to major temples and religious centers across the state. During a review meeting in Vijayawada , he instructed officials to deploy 24/7 maintenance teams , conduct advance inspections of feeders and transformers, and arrange alternative power supply systems wherever necessary. Emphasizing zero tolerance for outages during the festival, the minister called for full preparedness to handle any emergencies swiftly and efficiently.
