India's Ambassador to Oman, Prashant Pise , on Monday met the 20 Indian crew members of the tanker MT Jalveer in Muscat, extending support and best wishes ahead of their return to India following their rescue from a maritime security incident off the Omani coast.

The sailors were safely evacuated and brought ashore with the assistance of Omani authorities after the Guinea-Bissau-flagged tanker MT Jalveer came under attack on June 11. The evacuation operation was carried out without further casualties, allowing all Indian crew members on board to reach safety.

In a statement shared on social media, the Embassy of India in Oman said Ambassador Pise interacted with the rescued seafarers and wished them a safe journey home. The mission reiterated its commitment to providing prompt assistance to Indian nationals facing distress abroad and ensuring their welfare and safe return.

The incident involving MT Jalveer has drawn attention to the growing security concerns in regional waters. The attack marked the latest in a series of strikes involving merchant vessels carrying Indian crew members near the Oman coast over the past week.

Earlier, on June 8, the Palau-flagged oil tanker MT Marivex , carrying 24 Indian sailors, was disabled in an attack. All crew members were successfully rescued. A day before the Jalveer incident, another Palau-flagged tanker, MT Settebello , was struck, resulting in the deaths of three Indian seafarers while 21 others survived.

The Indian government has been closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with regional authorities to ensure the safety of Indian nationals working aboard commercial vessels operating in the region.

The meeting between Ambassador Pise and the rescued crew members marks an important step in their return journey, bringing relief to their families and underscoring India's continued diplomatic efforts to support citizens caught in overseas emergencies.

As the sailors prepare to return home, the episode highlights both the risks faced by merchant mariners in volatile waters and the importance of swift international cooperation in safeguarding lives at sea.
