Risky Flyover Works Put Workers’ Lives in Danger
Ongoing flyover construction works in the Santosh Nagar area of Hyderabad are raising serious safety concerns among motorists and local residents. Visuals circulating on social media show heavy beams being lifted by cranes along the Chanchalguda–Santosh Nagar stretch without visible safety measures in place.
The 2.5-kilometre-long flyover project , which has already been delayed by four years, is currently reported to be 82 per cent complete . Despite the progress, heavy iron girders and cement beams are being installed overhead while vehicles continue to pass through the busy stretch below. Workers are seen performing duties at considerable heights without safety belts or protective gear, prompting fears of potential accidents.
Motorists have expressed anxiety, recalling previous flyover accidents in Mumbai and Bihar, and warning that even a minor lapse could lead to loss of life given the heavy traffic movement beneath the construction site.
The project is being executed under the supervision of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and is targeted for completion by June 2026 . However, residents have criticised the authorities for failing to divert traffic or install adequate protective barricades during the ongoing works.
Notably, neither the GHMC nor HYDRA officials have issued any clarification on the matter so far. Citizens are demanding an immediate safety audit and the implementation of necessary precautionary measures to prevent any untoward incidents.
