Rotten Meat, Expired Milk: Bengaluru’s Skyee Lounge Kitchen Shut, 132 Kg Food Seized

A rooftop lounge in Bengaluru’s UB City had its kitchen closed after food safety officials found rotten meat, fungus and expired dairy products during an inspection on Sunday.

The inspection was carried out by the Food Safety and Drug Administration department at six high end eateries in UB City and Brigade Road. Officials were checking whether the outlets were following food safety rules.

The rooftop lounge, identified in inspection details as Skyee Lounge on the 16th floor of UB City, was found to have serious hygiene issues. Officials said meat and beef kept in the kitchen were rotten and had developed fungus. Milk and curd that had expired 10 days earlier were also found.

The kitchen was closed because of its unhygienic condition, officials said.

At Hotel Sky in UB City, officials found 45 kg of rotten chicken and beef and 6 kg of vegetable cutlets. They also found 15 litres of used cooking oil. The food was declared unfit for consumption and discarded or destroyed as per procedure.

At Royal Chain Hotel, officials seized 50 kg of duck and 5 kg of fish. Madras Kitchen had 5 kg of green peas seized, while 5 kg of mushrooms were seized from Tescon Hotel.

At Senchez, officials seized 3 kg of fish and discarded another 7 kg of cake, potato and tacos.

Overall, 132 kg of food articles were seized or disposed of during the inspections. The action also involved 15 litres of used cooking oil.

The inspections are part of an ongoing drive to check food safety at restaurants in Bengaluru. The findings are likely to raise fresh questions about hygiene standards at high end restaurants, where customers often expect better food and kitchen conditions.

Authorities have so far not said that the outlets have been permanently shut or that their food licences have been cancelled. The reported closure applies to the rooftop lounge kitchen over the hygiene concerns found during the inspection.
