Rs 15,000 Crore Fee Reimbursement Dues Pending in Telangana: Ramachander Rao

Telangana BJP president N. Ramachander Rao on Saturday demanded that the state government immediately clear the pending fee reimbursement dues owed to students, claiming the outstanding amount has now risen to nearly Rs 15,000 crore.

Rao said the BJP would intensify its agitation if the government failed to act on the issue. He also hit back at Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for questioning why the BJP had not raised the issue when the previous BRS government was in power.

Rao said the BJP had, in fact, raised the issue during the BRS regime and had repeatedly demanded that pending fee reimbursement amounts be cleared. He claimed that more than Rs 5,000 crore had accumulated as dues during the last two years of the previous government.

According to Rao, the Congress government has added another Rs 10,000 crore to the outstanding amount since coming to power, taking the total dues to around Rs 15,000 crore. He questioned the government's decision to target the BJP over its protests instead of focusing on clearing the payments to students.

“The government should stop blaming the BJP and take responsibility for resolving the issue,” Rao said, urging the administration to release the pending amounts without further delay.

He also criticised both the ruling Congress and the BRS over the ongoing Assembly session, alleging that important public issues, including fee reimbursement, were not receiving adequate attention. Instead, the two parties were engaged in trading accusations and wasting valuable legislative time, he alleged.

Rao further claimed that the BRS was reluctant to allow detailed discussions because its 10-year rule could come under scrutiny, while the Congress was also avoiding a wider debate for fear that allegations of corruption against its government could surface.

The BJP leader reiterated that the government must immediately release the pending fee reimbursement amounts. If there was no response, he warned, the BJP would step up its agitation across the state.
