RSS Chief Suggests Three - Child Norm, Calls for Social Harmony and Unity

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat called for greater unity and empowerment of Hindu society while stressing vigilance on demographic trends, social cohesion and cultural identity during social harmony programmes in Lucknow. He said there is no immediate threat but emphasised awareness and preparedness to preserve social balance and national harmony.

Raising demographic concerns, Bhagwat suggested Hindu families consider having three children , citing scientific views that societies with fertility rates below replacement levels risk long-term decline. He urged newly married couples to understand marriage as an institution meant to sustain social continuity, not merely fulfil personal desires. Addressing security and social concerns, he spoke about illegal infiltration and said such individuals should be identified and deported, while warning against conversions through inducement or coercion and calling for efforts supporting reconversion and community welfare.

Framing Sanatan philosophy as rooted in harmony, Bhagwat urged society to eliminate discrimination and ensure temples, wells and cremation grounds remain open to all Hindus. He emphasised ending caste divisions and uplifting disadvantaged communities through inclusion and belonging. Stressing that harmony begins at home, he described the family as the foundational unit of society and called for values such as patriotism, discipline, integrity and cultural pride. Highlighting matrushakti , he said women form the backbone of households and should be empowered through respect, opportunity and self-defence training.

Bhagwat also cautioned against excessive exposure to technology and artificial intelligence , urging disciplined usage among youth while promoting careers rooted in service and nation-building rather than consumption. He said India ’s civilisational ethos could help address global challenges and called for vigilance against external forces that may disrupt social harmony. Representatives from multiple faith communities attended the programme, reinforcing the emphasis on dialogue and social harmony in an increasingly diverse and rapidly changing society.
