Russia Bombards Kyiv For 12 Hours, Killing At Least 12 In Sixth Straight Day Of Attacks

Russia unleashed one of its most sustained aerial assaults on Ukraine’s capital, pounding Kyiv for more than 12 hours with missiles, drones and other weapons in an attack that killed at least 12 people and wounded more than a dozen others, including three children.

The strikes continued into Tuesday, marking an unprecedented sixth consecutive day of heavy Russian attacks on Kyiv since Moscow launched its full-scale invasion more than four years ago. Ukrainian officials said the repeated bombardments appeared aimed not only at military targets but also at disrupting civilian life and spreading fear.

The assault came as millions of Ukrainian children returned to school for another academic year under the shadow of war. Residential buildings and civilian infrastructure were damaged across several parts of the capital. Eight people were killed in Kyiv and another four in the surrounding region, authorities said.

Six employees of state-owned railway operator Ukrzaliznytsia were among those killed after a ballistic missile struck a railway depot and other property, company chairman Oleksandr Pertsovskyi said. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also said an Indian citizen was among the dead.

Ukraine’s air force said Russia launched 218 drones and decoys, along with ballistic, cruise and anti-radar missiles. Around a third of the drones were jet-powered, making them harder to intercept.

The strikes also hit the Odessa region, damaging civilian facilities and residential buildings and sparking a fire at a textile factory. Russian shelling in Zhytomyr caused fires at an industrial site and a warehouse.

Meanwhile, Russia claimed its air defences intercepted 516 Ukrainian drones over 18 regions, Crimea and the Black Sea. A fire was reported at the major oil and gas export terminal at Ust-Luga in the Leningrad region.

The latest escalation came as the war remained a key issue in discussions involving India, China and Russia at a summit in Kyrgyzstan. Germany, meanwhile, accused Moscow of involvement in an attempted drone attack near Leipzig/Halle Airport last month.
