Russia unleashed another wave of drone and missile attacks across Ukraine overnight, killing three people and battering Kyiv for the second consecutive night, while Ukraine responded with long-range strikes on Russian oil and gas infrastructure , highlighting the intensifying conflict despite ongoing diplomatic efforts.

Powerful explosions echoed across Kyiv shortly after midnight, with residents reporting blasts even before air raid sirens were activated, leaving little time for civilians to seek shelter. According to Ukrainian authorities, one woman was killed and two others injured in the capital. The strikes also damaged administrative buildings, warehouses, a garage complex and several trams, disrupting normal life in the city.

The eastern city of Kharkiv suffered the heaviest casualties, where two people were killed and 20 others injured in a series of overnight attacks. In Zaporizhzhia , Russian guided bombs injured two civilians.

Ukraine's Air Force said Russia launched 169 long-range drones and seven missiles , including five ballistic missiles , during the assault. Air defence systems intercepted or electronically jammed 139 drones , while two anti-radar missiles failed to reach their targets. However, all five ballistic missiles and around 20 drones struck targets at 15 locations , reflecting the continued pressure on Ukraine's air defence network.

Russia's Defence Ministry claimed its forces targeted Ukrainian military-industrial facilities in Kyiv, including a plant producing components for Flamingo cruise missiles and another assembling medium- and long-range drones.

Meanwhile, Ukraine carried out deep strikes inside Russia. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy , who was in Turkey to meet US President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the NATO summit , said Ukrainian drones struck oil refineries in the Saratov and Tatarstan regions, along with targets in Bashkortostan and Voronezh . The attacks are part of Kyiv's sustained campaign against Russia's energy infrastructure, which has reportedly worsened fuel shortages.

Russia said its air defences shot down 415 Ukrainian drones overnight. Officials reported one death in the Saratov region, damage to industrial facilities in Nizhnekamsk, and attacks on two empty oil tankers in Taganrog Bay that injured two crew members. Russian energy giant Gazprom also claimed Ukrainian drones targeted a compressor station linked to the Blue Stream gas pipeline supplying Türkiye, though gas deliveries were not disrupted.

The latest exchange of strikes underscores the continuing escalation of the more than four-year-long war, with both sides increasingly targeting critical infrastructure far beyond the front lines.
