Russian Tourist Found Dead in Kasol Homestay, Investigation Underway

A 29-year-old Russian tourist was found dead under mysterious circumstances at a homestay in Kasol , a popular backpacker destination in Himachal Pradesh's Kullu district, prompting a police investigation into the incident.

The deceased, identified as Daria Kuzminykh , had been staying at the homestay with a friend in Kasol, a scenic village in the Parvati Valley known for attracting large numbers of foreign visitors, particularly from Israel, Russia and Ukraine.

According to police, the woman was discovered unconscious in the washroom of the homestay on Saturday by her friend. Efforts to obtain medical assistance proved unsuccessful, and she was declared dead before help could arrive.

Following information from local panchayat representatives, a team from Manikaran Police Station rushed to the spot and began preliminary inquiries. The body was later shifted to the Regional Hospital in Kullu for a post-mortem examination .

Officials said the exact cause of death remains unknown and will only be established after forensic and medical reports are received. Investigators are examining all possible angles, including medical complications and other potential causes, although no immediate evidence of foul play has emerged.

Police officials said the woman's companion did not raise any suspicion regarding the circumstances of her death during initial questioning. However, authorities have continued to treat the case as an unexplained death until the autopsy findings are available.

In line with international protocol, the Russian Embassy in New Delhi has been informed. Police said further action will depend on the post-mortem report and the outcome of the ongoing investigation .
