Sachin Siwach, Preeti Pawar Set Sights on Asian Games Gold After Historic CWG 2026

Fresh off a record-breaking Commonwealth Games 2026 campaign, Indian boxers Sachin Siwach and Preeti Pawar have shifted their focus to winning gold medals at the Asian Games, following their triumphant performances in Glasgow.

The Indian boxing contingent returned home to a warm reception at Delhi Airport after delivering the country's best-ever Commonwealth Games boxing performance, winning 10 medals, including seven golds.

Sachin Siwach, who clinched the men’s 60kg gold medal, described the moment of seeing the Indian national flag raised during the medal ceremony as an unforgettable experience. He said the feeling of hearing the National Anthem and watching the tricolour being hoisted is the ultimate motivation for every athlete. Sachin added that his next goal is to win gold at the Asian Games, while thanking fans for their continued encouragement and support.

The Indian boxer produced a spirited comeback in the final, edging Namibia’s Tryagain Morning Ndevelo by a 3-2 split decision to secure the title.

Meanwhile, Preeti Pawar has set her sights on both the Asian Games in Japan, scheduled to begin on September 19, and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. She expressed gratitude to supporters who welcomed the team home and said the emotion of hearing the National Anthem after winning gold is something that cannot be described in words.

The 2022 Asian Games bronze medallist claimed the women’s 54kg gold medal after defeating Canada’s Scarlett Delgado by unanimous decision in the final.

The 2026 Commonwealth Games were held in a compact format, resulting in the exclusion of several major Indian medal-winning sports, including shooting, hockey, wrestling, and badminton.

Despite the reduced programme, India finished fourth in the overall medals table with 39 medals — 13 gold, 17 silver, and nine bronze. The closing ceremony also marked the beginning of India’s preparations to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games in Amdavad, as the Commonwealth Games Flag was officially handed over to the future host city.
