Samba, Rajouri on Alert After Suspected Pakistani Drone Sightings Overnight

Security forces on Monday launched extensive search operations in forward areas of Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba and Rajouri districts following suspected sightings of Pakistani drones overnight, officials said.

The suspected drone movement was detected by alert Army personnel in Nandpur, near the International Border (IB) in Samba, and in the Tarkundi-Saaj area of the Nowshera sector, close to the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri.

Following the sightings, both areas were placed under heightened surveillance. The Army, assisted by Jammu and Kashmir Police and other security agencies, launched search operations at first light to ascertain whether the suspected drones had dropped weapons, narcotics or other material in the border areas.

The search operations were underway when the latest reports were received. Officials said no recovery or arrest had been reported so far.

The latest incidents come amid a reported increase in suspected drone activity along forward areas of Jammu and Kashmir over the past week. Security agencies have consequently intensified surveillance and strengthened anti-drone measures in vulnerable border zones, particularly in Samba and Kathua districts.

Officials said the heightened security measures are aimed at preventing possible attempts to smuggle arms and narcotics across the border or facilitate infiltration using drones. Security forces continue to maintain a close watch over sensitive areas along the IB and LoC.
