SC Issues Notice To CBSE On Plea For Declaration Of Class 12 Improvement Result

The Supreme Court of India on Monday agreed to examine a plea seeking directions to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to declare the Class 12 improvement examination result of a student from Saudi Arabia, issuing notice to the board and its regional officer.

A bench comprising Justices Manmohan and Vijay Bishnoi took note of the matter and orally observed that it concerns the student’s academic future. The court directed the counsel for CBSE to obtain instructions at the earliest. “This is about the career of a child, he will miss all his admissions... Whatever it is, burn the midnight oil,” the bench remarked during the hearing.

The plea has been filed by Pransu Jigarkumar Patel , who appeared as a private candidate for the CBSE Class 12 improvement examination, 2026 , from Al Jubail in Saudi Arabia. He has written papers in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English and Computer Science .

According to the petition, the CBSE has failed to declare his result despite an assessment scheme framed for students whose examinations in several Gulf countries were cancelled. The petitioner submitted that the delay has seriously jeopardised his higher education prospects , as he is unable to secure admissions without the result.

Patel further stated that he had sent multiple representations to the board on May 17, May 21 and May 30 , seeking resolution of the issue. However, he alleged that no response was received from the CBSE.

The petition also highlighted that the CBSE had cancelled Class 12 board examinations in seven Middle Eastern countries Bahrain, Iran, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE in view of escalating regional tensions linked to the Iran-Israel-US conflict . Special assessment arrangements were subsequently framed for affected students.

The court’s intervention comes amid concerns that the non-declaration of results has disrupted admission timelines and created uncertainty for students abroad awaiting higher education opportunities.
