The transformation of Secunderabad Railway Station , one of India’s busiest rail hubs, is progressing rapidly, with nearly two-thirds of the redevelopment work now completed. Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy announced that the ambitious project, aimed at converting the station into a world-class transportation facility, has reached 64 per cent completion .

Being redeveloped at a cost of ₹714.73 crore , the station is expected to emerge as a modern landmark equipped with advanced passenger amenities and improved connectivity. According to the minister, the project is moving ahead at a brisk pace and will significantly enhance the travel experience for millions of passengers who use the station every year.

The upgraded station will feature new state-of-the-art terminal buildings , a two-level air concourse , and an expansive roof structure covering all platforms. Passenger convenience is being prioritised through the installation of 26 lifts , 32 escalators , and seamless access to different parts of the station.

The redevelopment plan also includes a multi-level parking facility , dedicated EV charging stations , a solar power plant , and a modern CCTV-based security network . To improve last-mile connectivity, dedicated skywalks linking the railway station with nearby Metro stations are also being constructed.

Several components of the project have already been completed, including a temporary booking office, a new Railway Protection Force building, a foot overbridge on the Kazipet side, and an approach road on the southern side of the station.

Construction is currently underway on the station buildings on both the northern and southern sides, multi-level parking structures, the air concourse, platform roofing, travelators, a sewage treatment plant, and the skywalk connections to the Secunderabad East and West Metro stations.

Kishan Reddy said the redevelopment reflects the Centre’s broader focus on strengthening railway infrastructure in Telangana. He noted that the project is part of the Union government’s efforts under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership to modernise key railway stations and improve passenger facilities across the country.

Once completed, the revamped Secunderabad Railway Station is expected to serve as a major transportation hub combining modern design, sustainability features, and enhanced commuter convenience.
