The security situation in the Jammu region , particularly in the remote forest belts of Kishtwar, Rajouri and Poonch, continues to remain sensitive , prompting intensified anti-terror operations by security forces to prevent militant regrouping and infiltration.

On Sunday, two terrorists affiliated with the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) were killed in an encounter with security forces in the Chatroo belt of Kishtwar district. The operation, launched following credible intelligence inputs from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Intelligence Bureau and Army sources , was part of a sustained counter-terror drive aimed at neutralising militants hiding in difficult terrain.

Army officials said the terrorists, believed to be Pakistani nationals, were hiding inside a mud house in the foothills when they opened fire on approaching search parties, triggering an intense gunfight. During the encounter, forces recovered arms and ammunition , including two AK-47 rifles, underlining the militants’ preparedness to carry out attacks.

Security agencies have expressed concern over the risk posed to civilians in remote and sparsely populated areas , where terrorists often seek shelter and logistical support, either forcibly or covertly. To mitigate this threat, additional area domination patrols and search operations are being conducted to ensure the safety of local residents.

The operation reflected close coordination and seamless synergy among the Indian Army, the Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) , with forces maintaining pressure on terrorist networks operating in the region. Officials said such joint operations have significantly disrupted militant movement and supply lines.

With the latest operation, a total of six JeM terrorists have been eliminated in the Jammu region this year , officials said, adding that search operations are continuing to ensure no remaining threats in the area. Security forces reiterated their commitment to maintaining peace, denying safe havens to terrorists and preventing cross-border infiltration , asserting that sustained vigilance and intelligence-led operations remain key to stabilising the region.
