In a major security operation, Indian forces uncovered a terrorist hideout in the dense Chamrer forest area near Thanamandi in Rajouri district , Jammu and Kashmir. The operation, carried out by troops of the Rashtriya Rifles on Wednesday evening, led to the recovery of a ready-to-use Improvised Explosive Device (IED), along with essential supplies such as clothes and eatables .

Rajouri district, located in the western Jammu division , shares a border with Pakistan-administered territory along the Line of Control and features mountainous terrain and dense forests of the Pir Panjal Range , which militants sometimes exploit for concealment. Thanamandi, a tehsil in the district, lies in a strategically sensitive region connected by key roads to Rajouri town and other areas, making the discovery crucial for regional security.

Officials confirmed that no arrests were made during the operation, and investigations are ongoing to trace those responsible for the hideout. The bust highlights the continuing vigilance of Indian security forces in regions vulnerable to infiltration and militant activity.

By disrupting such camps, authorities aim to prevent potential attacks and safeguard local communities . Officials emphasized the importance of intelligence gathering, patrolling, and community cooperation in detecting and neutralizing such threats. The successful operation in Chamrer forest serves as a reminder of the ongoing challenges in counter-terrorism efforts in Jammu and Kashmir and underscores the critical role of strategic forested areas in the region’s security landscape.
