The Telangana government has appointed senior IAS officer Sanjay Jaju as the state's next Chief Secretary, bringing back an experienced administrator with extensive service in both state and central government roles.

According to official orders issued on Friday, Jaju, a 1992-batch IAS officer , will assume office after incumbent Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao retires on June 30.

Currently serving as Secretary in the Union Ministry responsible for the development of the North Eastern Region, Jaju has previously held several key positions in the Government of India, including Secretary in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. His appointment follows deliberations by the state leadership, which also considered other senior bureaucrats before finalising his name.

In addition to serving as Chief Secretary, Jaju will continue to hold full additional charge of the positions of Special Chief Secretary for Industries and Commerce and the Information Technology, Electronics and Communications (ITE&C) Department . He will also oversee responsibilities related to the Chief Minister's Office, including the Industry and Investment Cell and the SPEED monitoring mechanism.

Jaju is no stranger to Telangana and the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh administration. After moving to central deputation in 2014, he spent more than a decade in various assignments with the Union government. His return as Chief Secretary marks a significant transition in Telangana's top administrative leadership. He is expected to remain in service until February 2029 .

Meanwhile, the government has decided to retain the services of outgoing Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao by appointing him as Advisor to the Chief Minister with the rank of Ex-Officio Special Chief Secretary after his retirement.

The state government has also announced a series of administrative reshuffles. Sabyasachi Ghosh , currently serving as Special Chief Secretary for Welfare and Development Programmes Implementation and CSR, has been given additional charge of the Handlooms, Textiles and Handicrafts Department . Similarly, senior forest officer Vinay Kumar , who is presently serving as Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) and Chief Wildlife Warden, has been entrusted with additional responsibilities as Principal Chief Conservator of Forests .
