The grass-court season has come to a disappointing end for one of tennis' brightest young talents, with Victoria Mboko confirming she will miss Wimbledon after suffering a knee injury during this week's tournament at Queen's Club in London.

The 19-year-old Canadian, currently ranked among the world's top players, sustained the injury during her singles match against Karolina Pliskova at the HSBC Championships . Mboko slipped behind the baseline while attempting to return a shot in the second set and immediately grabbed her left knee in visible discomfort.

“The teenager was unable to continue and retired from the match before later withdrawing from the doubles competition as well. The injury comes at a particularly unfortunate time for Mboko, who had been attracting significant attention at Queen’s Club as the doubles partner of tennis legend Serena Williams. With Mboko now ruled out, Serena Williams is expected to quickly look for a replacement partner or potentially withdraw from the doubles event altogether, depending on her final schedule and fitness considerations ahead of Wimbledon.”

In a message posted on Instagram, Mboko revealed that the fall resulted in damage to the medial collateral ligament (MCL) in her left knee, ruling her out for the remainder of the grass-court season.

"Unfortunately, my fall on Wednesday caused an injury to the MCL on my left knee, which sadly means I will miss the remainder of the grass season. This unfortunately means Wimbledon too, a tournament I had been so looking forward to playing this year," she wrote.

The news is a major setback for a player widely regarded as one of the sport's most exciting young prospects. Wimbledon represented another significant milestone in what has been a rapid rise through the professional ranks, and expectations were high for the Canadian heading into the season's third Grand Slam.

Mboko's injury also cuts short a promising doubles partnership with Williams , who returned to professional competition this week for the first time since the 2022 US Open . The pair had made a winning start to their campaign, generating considerable excitement among fans eager to see the veteran champion back on court.

For now, however, Mboko's focus shifts from competition to recovery. Tennis supporters will hope the talented Canadian can make a swift return and resume the remarkable progress that has made her one of the game's most talked-about young stars.
