Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi Case: Allahabad HC to Hear Pleas Again on October 13

The Allahabad High Court on Friday adjourned the hearing on amendment applications filed in connection with the Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi-Shahi Idgah dispute in Mathura to October 13.

Justice Avnish Saxena heard the parties concerned on the applications and deferred further proceedings. The court's order on several applications moved in the matter is still awaited.

The long-running dispute concerns the Shahi Idgah mosque, located near the Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi temple complex in Mathura. The Hindu petitioners have alleged that the mosque was constructed during the Mughal era at the site believed to be the birthplace of Lord Krishna.

A group of 18 petitioners, claiming to be devotees of Lord Krishna, has asserted that the Shahi Idgah stands on a 13.37-acre plot belonging to the Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi Trust. They have sought restoration of the land to the Hindu side and challenged the continued presence of the mosque at the disputed site.

The Hindu side has filed 18 suits seeking possession of the disputed property following removal of the Shahi Idgah structure, restoration of the temple and a permanent injunction against interference with the claimed rights over the land.

The petitions are part of a series of legal proceedings concerning the historical and religious status of the site. Several matters connected with the dispute are pending before the Allahabad High Court and the Supreme Court.

The controversy centres on claims that the Shahi Idgah was built during the reign of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb after the demolition of a temple at the site associated with Lord Krishna's birth. The claims and counterclaims remain subject to judicial consideration.

The High Court's next hearing in the matter is scheduled for October 13, when the proceedings concerning the amendment applications are expected to continue.
