Shubman Gill bags BCCI Cricketer of the Year after stellar season
India’s Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill is poised to be named Cricketer of the Year at the BCCI’s annual awards , scheduled for March 15 in New Delhi.
The 26-year-old had an extraordinary season across the longer formats, despite being overlooked for the T20 squad that successfully defended the World Cup last month. Gill scored a staggering 983 runs in Tests, including 754 runs in the drawn away series against England in 2025, at an average exceeding 70. In ODIs, he amassed 490 runs, highlighted by 188 during India’s victorious Champions Trophy campaign. Overall, across formats, Gill accumulated 1,764 runs at an average of 49, including seven centuries and three fifties.
While his T20 International form did not match his red‑ and white‑ball dominance, scoring just 578 runs in 21 T20Is at a strike rate of around 139 for India, Gill displayed remarkable consistency in the IPL. In the 2025 season, he amassed 650 runs for Gujarat Titans at an average of 50 and an impressive strike rate of 155.88 , underscoring his ability to dominate the shortest format at the franchise level even if his international T20 returns have so far been modest.
In other major awards, former India head coach Rahul Dravid is set to receive the Col CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award for his monumental contributions to Indian cricket, including steering the team to the 2024 T20 World Cup title . The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) will be recognized as the Best Association in domestic cricket for its continued excellence in nurturing talent.
The BCCI gala promises to be a celebration of India’s cricketing achievements over the past year, honoring players, coaches, and associations that have left a lasting impact on the game.
