Shubman Gill Reclaims ODI No. 1 as Sooryavanshi's 230-Place Surge Stuns Cricket World

India captain Shubman Gill has returned to the No. 1 spot in the ICC ODI batting rankings, replacing New Zealand's Daryl Mitchell, according to the latest rankings released on July 29. Mitchell had occupied the top position since January 2026, but his absence during the recent West Indies-New Zealand ODI series allowed Gill to reclaim the summit.

The latest rankings also marked a significant milestone for 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who surged 230 places to 48th in the ICC T20I batting rankings following an impressive series against Zimbabwe. The young batter amassed 151 runs in three matches at an average of 50.33, playing a key role in India's 3-0 T20I series sweep.

Despite losing a few rating points, Ishan Kishan retained the No. 1 position among T20I batters with 910 rating points, maintaining a comfortable lead over Sahibzada Farhan (848). The ICC also noted that Kishan's career-best rating of 916 surpassed the peak ratings previously achieved by Indian stars Suryakumar Yadav (912) and Virat Kohli (909).

Among other Indian players, Tilak Varma climbed two places to sixth, while T20I captain Shreyas Iyer jumped seven spots to 24th in the batting rankings. Leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi gained 31 places to reach 41st among T20I bowlers. Varun Chakravarthy, who missed the Zimbabwe tour due to injury, slipped three positions but remained inside the top 10.

Zimbabwe's Ryan Burl advanced to 85th among T20I batters, while Blessing Muzarabani rose to 26th in the bowling rankings.

In the ICC Test rankings, West Indies all-rounder Justin Greaves was rewarded for his match-winning performance against Pakistan, climbing 21 places to 48th among bowlers and ninth among all-rounders after helping his side secure a 90-run victory and an unassailable 1-0 series lead. Teammate Jayden Seales moved up to 24th, while Pakistan's Mohammad Abbas climbed to 17th after a five-wicket haul. Babar Azam also improved to 15th in the Test batting rankings following his unbeaten half-century.
