Shuchita Sonalika Takes Charge as C-IBC’s First Chief Operating Officer

Prominent Indian industry representative Shuchita Sonalika has been appointed as the first Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the Canada-India Business Council (C-IBC), as economic and investment ties between India and Canada show signs of renewed momentum.

Sonalika brings nearly 18 years of experience in international affairs, with a career focused on strengthening India’s economic partnerships across North America, Europe and other global markets. Her appointment is expected to bolster the council’s efforts to expand business engagement and facilitate greater cooperation between companies and institutions in both countries.

“This appointment significantly strengthens our capacity and positions the council to play an increasingly consequential role in this rapidly evolving economic corridor,” Victor Thomas, President and CEO of C-IBC, said in a statement.

Before joining the council, Sonalika served as Director and Head – North America at the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in Washington, D.C. She had earlier led CII’s operations in the United Kingdom, giving her extensive experience in managing international business and policy engagements.

Sonalika said she looks forward to working with the council’s board, members and partners in both countries to unlock the potential of the bilateral relationship.

The appointment comes as India and Canada seek to deepen trade, investment and commercial cooperation, creating opportunities for businesses across sectors. The C-IBC is positioned to play a greater role in supporting companies navigating the evolving economic landscape and identifying new avenues for cross-border partnerships.

C-IBC Board Chair Craig Brown highlighted Sonalika’s institutional experience, understanding of India’s business and policy environment and global perspective. He said the board believes her expertise and leadership will help the council operate at the scale required by the current phase of bilateral engagement.

Founded in 1982, the Canada-India Business Council is dedicated to strengthening economic ties and promoting greater business cooperation between the two countries.
