Sindhu, Satwik Chirag Lead Star Studded Indian Badminton Squad for Asian Games
Two time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu and the reigning men’s doubles champions Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty will spearhead India’s badminton campaign at the upcoming Aichi Nagoya Asian Games , with the Badminton Association of India announcing a strong and balanced squad on Saturday.
The selection committee finalised the lineup after assessing recent performances across domestic and international tournaments along with the latest BWF rankings, setting the stage for what is expected to be India’s most ambitious campaign yet.
The squad is led in men’s singles by Lakshya Sen , alongside experienced names such as H S Prannoy and former world number one Kidambi Srikanth , all of whom were part of India’s historic team silver medal run in Hangzhou.
India enters the Asian Games riding on strong recent momentum, having secured its best ever badminton performance in the previous edition with one gold, one silver and an individual bronze. The current squad reflects a blend of experience, consistency and emerging young talent.
In women’s singles, PV Sindhu leads the charge alongside rising star Unnati Hooda , while the men’s doubles core remains centered around the world class pairing of Satwik and Chirag , who continue to be India’s biggest medal hope in the discipline. The duo recently returned to top form, strengthening India’s prospects significantly.
The men’s doubles unit also includes Hariharan Amsakarunan and M R Arjun , while the women’s doubles challenge will be anchored by Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand , supported by the pairing of Kavipriya Selvam and Simran Singhi .
In mixed doubles, Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto will carry India’s hopes, adding further depth to a squad that has been carefully shaped across all five disciplines.
Young talents such as Ayush Shetty, Tanvi Sharma, Isharani Baruah, Devika Sihag and Tharun Mannepalli also find a place, reflecting the growing pipeline of Indian badminton.
BAI officials said the selection reflects both current form and long term vision, pointing to India’s strong Thomas Cup performances and consistent international breakthroughs across categories.
With the Asian Games scheduled from September 19 to October 4, India will aim not only to match but surpass its previous medal tally and further establish itself as a rising force in world badminton.
