Defending champion Jannik Sinner produced a masterclass performance to overpower seven-time Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 in the semifinals on Friday, booking his place in the final of the Wimbledon Championships and setting up a showdown with French Open champion Alexander Zverev.

The victory was a significant statement from the world No. 1, who had faced questions about his form after a shocking second-round exit at the French Open, where his 30-match winning streak ended against Juan Manuel Cerundolo. On Centre Court, however, Sinner looked every bit the dominant force that has led men’s tennis over the past year. Determined to avenge his five-set defeat to Djokovic in the Australian Open semifinals earlier this season, the Italian dictated play from the opening game with powerful groundstrokes and accurate serving.

“I knew mentally that today I had to raise my level, which I've done,” Sinner said after the match. He faced only one break point throughout the contest and erased it with an ace, underlining his control against one of the sport’s greatest champions.

For Djokovic, the defeat represented another missed opportunity to add to his record 24 Grand Slam singles titles . The 39-year-old Serbian, who entered the semifinal after surviving the longest Wimbledon quarterfinal in history against Felix Auger-Aliassime, acknowledged the challenge posed by Sinner but insisted he remains capable of competing with the world's best. Djokovic also expressed his desire to return to Wimbledon next year. “I would like to, at least one more time,” he said.

Earlier in the day, Zverev ended the remarkable Wimbledon journey of British wildcard Arthur Fery with a commanding 7-6(0), 6-2, 6-4 victory. The 114th-ranked Fery, who grew up just five minutes from the All England Club, had captured the imagination of home fans with his fairytale run. Despite strong crowd support, the Briton struggled to match Zverev’s power and consistency.

Fresh from winning his maiden Grand Slam title at the French Open, Zverev reached his first Wimbledon final , becoming the first German man to do so since Boris Becker in 1995. His booming serve, which reached 139 mph (224 kph) , proved decisive throughout the semifinal.

“This Grand Slam has always been the one that I struggled with the most and all of a sudden I'm in the final of Wimbledon,” Zverev said.

The final presents a daunting challenge for the German. Sinner has won nine consecutive matches against Zverev and claimed 14 straight sets in their rivalry. Yet Zverev arrives with confidence after capturing his first major title at Roland Garros and is aiming to become the first man in the professional era since 1968 to win a second Grand Slam title at the very next major after securing his first.

With Sinner seeking to successfully defend his Wimbledon crown and Zverev chasing a historic second straight major title, Sunday’s final promises to be one of the most anticipated matches of the season.
