Police have intensified the investigation into the death of Himashree Boro, an Assam student, whose body was found beside a railway track in Andhra Pradesh’s Srikakulam district on October 7. A Special Investigation Team (SIT), forensic experts, a clues team, a dog squad and a drone unit are collecting evidence to establish the circumstances surrounding her death.

According to a police statement released on Friday night, Boro’s body was discovered near Penubarthi village, between Vizianagaram and Srikakulam Road. The district Superintendent of Police and SIT members inspected the scene, while specialist teams searched the surrounding area.

Boro was pursuing a BBA degree in Guwahati before arriving in Visakhapatnam on August 16 with a 10-member dance troupe comprising two men and eight women. The group stayed in Pendurthi and reportedly earned around Rs 2,000 per person daily. Five members returned to Assam, while the others remained in the region.

On October 6, Boro missed the Silchar Express while attempting to return home. She decided to board the Vivek Express, scheduled to depart at 11.50 pm. After contacting her college friend Jyoti Choudhary for ticket assistance, she was connected to Eshwar, a student at Raghu Engineering College. Eshwar sent his friend Abhinash to the station, who arranged a general-class ticket for her.

Police said Boro boarded the crowded, moving train alone at 2.39 am on October 7, after her request for a third-AC berth was declined. Two AC coach attendants allegedly demanded Rs 4,000 without guaranteeing a berth.

During the journey, Boro called Choudhary, reporting that some young men were behaving inappropriately towards her. The call was disconnected abruptly. Choudhary alerted Anoop Tiwari, who lodged a complaint through railway helpline 139.

When the train reached Srikakulam Road station at 3.56 am, Railway Assistant Sub-Inspector V. Aruna and other personnel searched the coach but could not find her. Her belongings were later recovered from the S2 coach. A fellow passenger reportedly said she had fallen from the moving train.

A medical team conducted the post-mortem examination. Police are continuing the investigation to determine the sequence of events and the circumstances that led to Boro’s death.
