Six Held For Allegedly Pelting Stones At Train In UP’s Bhadohi, Viral Video Leads To Arrests

Six people, including four young men and two minors, have been taken into custody for allegedly pelting stones at a Varanasi Prayagraj local train near Ahimanpur railway station in Uttar Pradesh’s Bhadohi district.

The incident took place on August 28, when an altercation reportedly broke out between some unidentified people and passengers travelling on the local train. The accused allegedly later picked up ballast stones from the railway track and threw them at the moving train.

A passenger recorded the incident on a mobile phone, capturing the alleged stone pelting. The video was subsequently circulated widely on social media, prompting the Railway Protection Force (RPF) to take cognisance of the incident and begin efforts to identify those involved.

Ram Bagh RPF Inspector Dayashankar Yadav said the accused were identified following an examination of the viral video. On Saturday evening, an RPF team, along with personnel from the Government Railway Police (GRP), detained the suspects from areas around Ahimanpur railway station.

Four of those arrested are aged between 18 and 20 years, while the other two detainees are 16-year-old minors. All six are residents of different villages in Bhadohi district, officials said. The four arrested men have been identified as Krishna Kumar Yadav alias Krishna, Abhishek Prajapati, Adarsh Prajapati and Aditya Gupta, according to local reports.

Police said no passenger was injured in the stone-pelting incident, although it reportedly created panic among those travelling on the train. A case has been registered against the accused under relevant legal provisions, and further investigation and legal action are underway.

The incident comes amid continued concern over stone-pelting incidents targeting trains, with railway authorities relying increasingly on passenger-recorded videos and surveillance footage to identify those responsible.
