Solheim Cup Golf: Europe, US Tied 4-4 as Korda-Corpuz Chase Sixth Straight Win

The Solheim Cup resumed under overcast skies on Saturday with Europe and the United States locked at 4-4, setting up another closely fought day at Bernardus Golf.

Both teams were looking to gain an early advantage in the morning foursomes, with the Americans particularly relying on their in-form pairing of Nelly Korda and Allisen Corpuz. The duo entered the opening match of the second day chasing a remarkable sixth consecutive victory together in Solheim Cup play.

Korda and Corpuz, however, were given an early test by Sweden’s Linn Grant and Maja Stark. The American pair trailed by one hole after five holes as Europe made a positive start to Saturday’s action.

Europe also reunited rookies Mimi Rhodes and Nastasia Nadaud, who were two up against Andrea Lee and Auston Kim after four holes in the third match.

The opening day had produced an unusual result, with both morning and afternoon sessions ending 2-2. It was the first time in the previous 19 editions of the competition that both sessions had been split evenly on the same day.

That leaves the contest finely balanced heading into the second day, with both sides aware that momentum could quickly change the complexion of the tie.

Europe will also be looking for improved performances from Charley Hull and Lottie Woad, who managed only half a point between them across Friday’s two sessions.

The United States holds an 11-7-1 overall advantage in the Solheim Cup, which dates back to 1990. The Americans are also the defending champions and need 14 points to retain the crystal trophy.

With the score level and several key pairings under pressure, Saturday promises to be another important test of both teams’ depth, composure and ability to perform in the biggest moments.
