The southwest monsoon finally entered Rajasthan on Thursday, marking its arrival seven days later than the usual onset date . While the delayed entry briefly prolonged the state's wait for seasonal rainfall, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has now forecast an active spell of rain, with several districts likely to witness heavy to extremely heavy downpours over the coming week.

According to the Meteorological Centre in Jaipur , the monsoon has advanced into the eastern parts of Rajasthan. At present, its northern limit passes through Tonk, Jaipur and Alwar , indicating that the seasonal weather system has begun spreading across the state after steadily advancing through northern and central India.

The IMD said that on Wednesday, the southwest monsoon progressed into additional parts of Gujarat , covered the remaining regions of Uttar Pradesh , the entire Delhi region, most parts of Madhya Pradesh , large areas of Haryana and Punjab , and finally entered parts of Rajasthan.

Weather officials expect the monsoon to advance into more areas of Rajasthan over the next two to three days , bringing widespread rainfall and a much needed boost for agriculture as the kharif sowing season gathers pace.

However, along with relief from the summer heat, the IMD has cautioned about the possibility of intense rainfall across eastern and southeastern Rajasthan. A heavy rainfall warning has been issued for several districts, with moderate to heavy showers accompanied by thunderstorms expected at isolated locations in the Udaipur, Kota, Ajmer, Bharatpur and Jaipur divisions on Thursday.

The department has also warned that extremely heavy rainfall could occur at isolated places in districts under the Kota division , increasing the risk of waterlogging, localized flooding and disruptions to daily life.

Looking ahead, the weather department expects the monsoon to remain active over the Jaipur, Bharatpur, Kota, Udaipur and Ajmer divisions throughout the next week. Widespread rainfall activity is likely across these regions, with intermittent spells of torrential rain expected in parts of eastern and southeastern Rajasthan.

Authorities have advised residents in vulnerable areas to stay updated with official weather advisories and exercise caution during periods of intense rainfall, especially in low lying and flood prone locations.
