SpiceJet Dubai Flights Delayed, Around 200 Passengers Protest at Delhi Airport

Around 200 SpiceJet passengers protested at Delhi airport after their flights to Dubai were repeatedly rescheduled and faced prolonged delays since Monday, according to sources.

The affected flights, SG 5111 and SG 5105, were scheduled to operate from Delhi to Dubai on Monday morning and evening, respectively. However, both flights were rescheduled, leaving several passengers stranded at the airport for hours.

The protests were reported at different locations inside Terminal 3 (T3) from late Monday evening. Airport officials subsequently took up the matter with SpiceJet executives as passengers sought clarity over the status of their flights and alternative travel arrangements.

A SpiceJet spokesperson on Tuesday expressed regret over the inconvenience caused to passengers and said the airline was making arrangements to accommodate those affected.

“SpiceJet flights SG 5111 and SG 5105, operating from Delhi to Dubai, have been delayed due to operational reasons following the grounding of an aircraft,” the spokesperson said in a statement.

“ Alternate flights are being arranged to accommodate the affected passengers, and the airline is making every effort to minimise the inconvenience caused,” the statement added.

The disruption comes at a time when the airline is facing several operational and financial challenges. The latest incident has also added to concerns over flight disruptions and passenger handling amid continuing scrutiny of the carrier.

Last week, Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu told PTI that the Civil Aviation Ministry and aviation regulator DGCA were closely monitoring SpiceJet’s financial position and operations.

The airline has faced heightened attention in recent months over its ability to maintain stable operations amid financial pressures and other challenges. The latest Delhi-Dubai disruption is expected to further focus attention on the carrier’s operational preparedness and contingency arrangements for passengers affected by flight cancellations or delays.
