
SS Rajamouli unveils India’s first 1.43:1 IMAX film, slated for 2027
SS Rajamouli’s upcoming Telugu action-adventure film starring Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Prithviraj Sukumaran is shaping up to be one of Indian cinema’s most ambitious projects yet, with a global release scheduled for April 7, 2027 .
The film features music by Oscar-winning composer M.M. Keeravani and marks several historic firsts for Indian cinema. It is the first Indian film to be shot in the 1.43:1 IMAX format , offering an unprecedented vertical scale designed for immersive large-screen viewing. It is also the first Indian production filmed in Antarctica , capturing dramatic icy landscapes to enhance the film’s visual spectacle.
Mahesh Babu described his first narration session with director SS Rajamouli as “mind-blowing,” hinting at a story that combines grand action with emotional depth. Rajamouli has revealed that the narrative draws inspiration from universal themes, particularly the father-son bond depicted in the Ramayana , giving the adventure a strong emotional core.
Adding to the film’s technical ambition, Dolby Cinema has confirmed an immersive theatrical rollout to showcase the movie’s vertical framing and expansive visuals, promising audiences a next-level cinematic experience.
