Stalin Questions CM Vijay's Delhi Visit, Links It to Karur CBI Probe
DMK President M.K. Stalin on Saturday launched a sharp attack on Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay , questioning whether the latter's recent visit to New Delhi for the NITI Aayog meeting was linked to concerns over the ongoing Karur CBI case and accusing him of echoing policy positions adopted by the previous DMK government.
Addressing a DMK women's wing event, Stalin said Vijay's speech at the June 11 NITI Aayog meeting largely reflected demands and achievements highlighted during the DMK administration between 2021 and 2026. He welcomed the chief minister's support for issues such as the release of pending education funds and opposition to linking central assistance with the National Education Policy's three-language formula.
However, Stalin accused Vijay of political inconsistency, recalling that the TVK founder had earlier criticised him for attending similar meetings with the Centre. Turning the criticism back on the chief minister, Stalin asked whether Vijay had travelled to Delhi to " escape " pressure arising from the Karur CBI investigation .
The probe relates to the stampede at a Vijay-led rally in Karur that allegedly claimed 41 lives and is currently under investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation.
Stalin also pointed to Vijay's appeal to the Centre for the release of Rs 3,284 crore in pending Samagra Shiksha funds without conditions , arguing that it mirrored the DMK's long-standing position on safeguarding Tamil Nadu's rights in education policy.
The latest exchange highlights the intensifying political rivalry between Tamil Nadu's major parties ahead of future electoral contests, with the DMK and TVK increasingly clashing over governance, Centre-State relations, education policy and accountability in high-profile investigations.
