National Award-winning filmmaker Sudha Kongara has approached the Madras High Court alleging non-payment of ₹8.39 crore towards her writing and directing remuneration for Parasakthi , triggering a major legal dispute in the Tamil film industry. The case has also cast uncertainty over the release plans of Dawn Pictures' upcoming production, Idhayam Murali .

According to court filings, Sudha Kongara has named Aakash Baskaran , the lead producer of Dawn Pictures , along with others associated with the production house. She has alleged that her agreed remuneration for writing and directing Parasakthi , which was released during the Sankranthi 2026 season, remains unpaid despite the film's release.

Acting on the petition, the Madras High Court has issued an interim order restraining the producers from proceeding with the satellite television rights, digital commercial transactions, and other related monetisation activities involving Parasakthi until July 8, 2026 , when the matter is expected to be heard further.

Sudha Kongara has also requested the court to prevent the release of Idhayam Murali , Dawn Pictures' next production scheduled to hit theatres on July 10, 2026 . The film stars Atharvaa , Kayadu Lohar , Preity Mukhundhan , Fahadh Faasil , and features music by S Thaman . If the court grants the additional relief sought, the producers could face significant financial and distribution challenges ahead of the planned release.

Beyond seeking recovery of her pending remuneration, Sudha has framed the legal battle as a broader fight for contractual accountability and fair compensation within the Indian film industry. She has argued that the dispute also highlights the long standing issue of pay disparity faced by women filmmakers despite their commercial and critical success.

The case has drawn widespread attention across Kollywood , with industry observers closely watching the outcome as it could have wider implications for contractual practices between filmmakers and production houses.
