Sunny Deol-Led Batwara 1947 Unveils First Look, Sets August 2026 Release

Aamir Khan Productions has unveiled the first-look character posters of its upcoming historical drama ‘Batwara 1947’ , confirming its theatrical release date as August 14, 2026 . The film, directed and written by Rajkumar Santoshi , is set against the backdrop of the 1947 Partition of India and explores themes of courage, displacement and survival during one of the most turbulent phases in the subcontinent’s history.

The newly released posters offer a first glimpse into the film’s ensemble cast, highlighting intense, character-driven visuals.

One poster features Shabana Azmi in a close-up shot, framed through a wooden doorway, reflecting confinement and emotional tension. Another shows Sunny Deol in a powerful, rugged look that underscores resilience and struggle, aligning with the film’s central conflict.

A third poster presents Preity Zinta in a dark hooded drape, her expression tense and reflective, adding to the film’s sombre tone. The fourth features Karan Deol in a dramatic, conflict-filled backdrop, suggesting his character’s direct engagement with the chaos of the era.

The fifth visual showcases Ali Fazal in a contemplative close-up, with long hair and a pained expression, while the sixth highlights Abhimanyu Singh in traditional attire, presenting a serious and composed persona.

The film brings together a strong ensemble cast, including Khushi Hajare and Kanikka Kapur , and marks a notable collaboration between Sunny Deol and Rajkumar Santoshi, who have previously worked on acclaimed films such as Ghayal , Damini and Ghatak .

Produced by Aamir Khan Productions under Aamir Khan and Aparna Purohit, the project also features music composed by A. R. Rahman , with lyrics penned by Javed Akhtar .

Dialogues have been contributed by noted playwright Asghar Wajahat , known for his acclaimed work Jis Lahore Nai Vekhya, O Jamya E Nai . The film was earlier introduced under the working title Lahore 1947 , before being officially renamed ‘Batwara 1947’ following Sunny Deol’s motion poster announcement on June 9.
