Supreme Court Agrees to Hear NEET UG OMR Discrepancy Plea by Six Candidates

Six NEET UG 2026 candidates have approached the Supreme Court, alleging that the answers they marked in their OMR sheets do not match the scanned copies uploaded by the National Testing Agency (NTA). They have sought an urgent hearing before the medical admission counselling process begins.

The matter was mentioned on Tuesday before a bench led by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, along with Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana.

Appearing for the students, the lawyer said all six candidates had scored above 600 or 650 marks but found differences between the answers they marked during the exam and the OMR sheets uploaded by the NTA. The lawyer argued that the alleged discrepancies could affect their rankings and chances of securing medical seats.

The petition further stated that the candidates had emailed the NTA and also visited its office to seek clarification but did not receive any response. After hearing the submissions, the Supreme Court agreed to list the matter for hearing.

The case comes amid continuing concerns over the transparency of the NEET UG 2026 examination. The exam, originally conducted on May 3, was cancelled after a paper leak and was held again on June 21 by the NTA.

The NTA had earlier dismissed several similar claims made after the declaration of NEET UG 2026 results. The agency maintained that its official records matched the declared scores in every case it examined and alleged that many OMR sheets circulating on social media were digitally altered, AI generated or otherwise manipulated. It also warned of legal action against those found sharing forged documents.

The Supreme Court's decision in the fresh petition could be significant, as it comes just ahead of the counselling process for medical admissions.
