
Swine Flu Alert in Maharashtra: KDMC Confirms Two Cases, Issues Health Advisory
Two cases of swine flu (H1N1) have been detected in the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) limits of Maharashtra’s Thane district, prompting civic authorities to reinforce disease surveillance while assuring residents that the situation remains under control.
According to health officials, both patients received treatment from specialist doctors at a private hospital and are now in stable condition, recovering at home under medical supervision. Officials said there is no cause for panic but stressed the importance of early diagnosis and prompt treatment to prevent complications and limit the spread of infection.
Dr Deepa Shukla, Executive Medical Health Officer of KDMC, appealed to residents experiencing symptoms associated with swine flu to seek immediate medical attention instead of resorting to self-medication. She advised people with persistent fever or respiratory illness to visit designated municipal healthcare facilities for timely evaluation.
Swine flu, caused by the H1N1 influenza virus, spreads mainly through respiratory droplets released when an infected person coughs or sneezes. Common symptoms include high fever, cough, sore throat, cold, body ache and weakness. While most patients recover with appropriate treatment, vulnerable groups such as senior citizens, pregnant women, young children and individuals with weakened immunity should remain particularly cautious.
To strengthen public health preparedness, the civic administration has urged residents to follow preventive measures, including frequent handwashing, proper respiratory etiquette, wearing masks in crowded places, staying hydrated and isolating when unwell. These precautions, officials said, remain effective in reducing the risk of transmission.
Residents have been advised to approach Rukminibai Hospital in Kalyan, Shastrinagar General Hospital in Dombivli, or any of the 35 Urban Health Centres and Arogyavardhini centres operated by KDMC if symptoms develop.
