T20 cricketer Rinku Singh’s father passes away after battle with cancer
Indian cricketer Rinku Singh mourned the loss of his father, Khanchand Singh , who passed away early Friday at a hospital in Greater Noida after a prolonged battle with advanced-stage liver cancer, family members and hospital officials confirmed.
Dr. Sunil Kumar, spokesperson for Yatharth Hospital in Greater Noida, where Khanchand Singh was admitted, said, “His condition had worsened in recent days. He was admitted on February 21, placed on ventilator support, and breathed his last early this morning.”
Former coach of Rinku, Masood Amini , said in Aligarh that Rinku’s father had been battling liver cancer and had been on ventilator support for the last three to four days before passing away early Friday morning.
Rinku, part of India’s T20 World Cup squad , had returned home midway through the tournament to be with his ailing father in Noida. He rejoined the team ahead of India’s match against Zimbabwe on February 26. Though he did not play in the game, he was present with the squad as India secured a convincing victory.
The family confirmed that Khanchand Singh’s last rites will be performed in Aligarh , with Rinku expected to attend the funeral later today.
A resident of Aligarh district, Uttar Pradesh, 28-year-old Rinku credits much of his cricketing success to his father. Khanchand Singh, who worked in gas cylinder distribution, supported his son’s dream despite financial hardships. He had also attended Rinku’s engagement ceremony to Samajwadi Party MP Priya Saroj at a Lucknow hotel in June 2025, despite his liver condition.
Rinku Singh’s journey in cricket has been marked by determination and the unwavering support of his father, a bond that will be remembered by family, friends, and fans alike.
