Tamil Nadu CM Vijay Meets Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi During Key Delhi Political Visit
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay met Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi at 10 Janpath in New Delhi on Wednesday, marking his first direct interaction with the Gandhi family since taking office last month.
The meeting, held at 6:30 pm , comes amid growing political significance as Congress becomes part of the TVK led government in Tamil Nadu after securing five seats in the 2026 Assembly elections and later joining the ruling alliance. With two Congress MLAs inducted into the Vijay cabinet , it marks the party’s return to a governing role in the state after nearly six decades.
The interaction follows an earlier missed engagement during Vijay’s first Delhi visit, when a proposed meeting with the Congress leadership did not materialise despite his discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi . The delay had drawn attention in political circles, though it was later described as a scheduling issue.
Wednesday’s meeting is seen as completing that pending political engagement. It comes during Vijay’s second visit to Delhi as Chief Minister, where he is also expected to participate in key national-level discussions.
A major highlight of his visit is the NITI Aayog Governing Council meeting scheduled today, chaired by PM Narendra Modi , where he is expected to outline Tamil Nadu’s development and welfare priorities, with a focus on cooperative federalism.
Before meeting the Gandhis, Vijay also called on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan and is expected to meet Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan and Union Home Minister Amit Shah during his Delhi tour.
The packed itinerary highlights Vijay’s effort to strengthen his government’s national engagement soon after assuming office, combining alliance coordination with high-level constitutional meetings.
